The folklore of Orkney includes tales of the selkie folk (“selkie” being the Orcadian dialect word for “seal”), a race of shape-shifting seals that can take human form. To do so they have to remove their seal skin, revealing what appears to be a human underneath. They would also venture onto land for encounters with human women, often unsatisfied ones. Link

Deus Irae
Zelazny discovered the manuscript in White’s home in early 1968, read it, then contacted Dick and agreed to work on it with him. Work proceeded sporadically over several years as each author forgot about it in turn (and Zelazny’s cat took the opportunity to urinate on the original manuscript). The editor discovered Zelazny had sent photocopies of some pages and demanded the...

O’Dell, who admits that her capacity for drugs was probably as much a factor as her easy-going personality in her popularity with rock stars, rose to the occasion. Keith Richards admiringly told her that she took drugs “like a man”. Praise from the master.” This quote reinforces the correlation between drugs and groupies. O’Dell goes on to describe the years with the Rolling...

The chorus of “Hand in My Pocket” utilized a poetry technique, “rhyme juxtaposition”, as its primary lyrical structure, as exemplified by the off-set coupling of the first and second stanzas of each chorus. In the first chorus for example, “fine, fine, fine” is coupled with “a high five”, when it should, according to traditional rhyming schemes, be...
